Dr. James Niedermeier announced his resignation as Superintendent of Schools today, providing the following message to the school community:

a letter on school letterhead

DCS Board of Education President Shayne Mitchell provided the following statement:

It is anticipated that Dr. Niedermeier’s appointment will be approved by Questar III BOCES at their next BOE meeting on Thursday, June 8, and his resignation will be accepted by the DCS Board of Education at our next regularly scheduled business meeting on Tuesday, June 13. At that meeting, the Board will provide preliminary information about conducting a thorough search to replace Dr. Niedermeier. As part of the search process, the Board will be seeking input from staff, students, and community members about the qualities they wish to see in our next school leader.

We plan to have a seamless transition of school operation by securing an experienced interim superintendent prior to Dr. Niedermeier’s departure to lead our district while the Board of Education works diligently to find our new superintendent. The community will be updated on the search process through regular communication.

Dr. Niedermeier started with our district in 2020, during an unprecedented time where we endured a global pandemic. He showed tremendous leadership while prioritizing the safety of our staff and students, maintaining academic fidelity, implementing detailed mandates required by New York state, and navigating a community that did not always agree.

He is to be commended for leading our district these last three years with a clear vision to support each and every student at Duanesburg with the resources necessary to be successful. He has led with character, relied on facts to make informed decisions, showed the ability to listen to all sides of a topic, and was never afraid to make difficult decisions to move the district forward.

While we are appreciative of Dr. Niedermeier’s lasting impact on DCS, we now turn our focus to the future. Our next superintendent must be someone who will continue our district’s positive momentum, ensure that we are providing the very best education for all students, and cultivate a strong and positive school community.

On behalf of the entire Board of Education at Duanesburg Central School, I would like to thank Dr. Niedermeier for his dedication to our district and wish him every success in his new role at Questar III BOCES, where I know he will be an impactful team member.

Shayne Mitchell

President, DCS Board of Education
