Board to appoint new superintendent

The Duanesburg Board of Education informed district residents on Tuesday morning, April 7, that it would appoint Dr. James Niedermeier at that evening’s board meeting. The Board’s announcement, sent via email to all parents and guardians read as follows:

Dear Community Members:

We are pleased to announce that after a competitive search process, the Board of Education has chosen our next superintendent who we believe will continue with the advancements we have made and do so with genuine passion for our students. We are very excited that Dr. James Niedermeier has accepted our offer to become the next DCS superintendent.

Dr. Niedermeier has been the Principal and Chief Academic Officer of Tech Valley High School in Albany, New York since 2015. Tech Valley High School is a unique entity that operates as its own separate school district. In this role, Dr. Niedermeier has experience developing and managing a multi million dollar budget, participating in negotiation of labor contracts, and operating officer functions for a school board, a school foundation and an alliance of business volunteers. He is known for staff development programs that draw educators from around the state, country and world.

As you know, the Board decided to conduct a confidential search in order to draw a more qualified and diverse candidate pool. We used the information from the community forum, community survey and the sentiments expressed to the Board members by the community, the staff and the students to guide our search. We believe that our choice of Dr. Niedermeier is right for our community and will enable us to continue with the progress we have made. He will keep us moving forward in our efforts to improve overall student success, to continue the district’s fiscal stability and to nurture, support and improve our district culture.

Dr. Niedermeier shared with us that he grew up in a small town much like Duanesburg in western New York. He impressed us with his ability to recognize, connect with and include all students.

Dr. Niedermeier will begin as district superintendent on July 1, 2020.  Our current interim superintendent, Jeff Ziegler, will continue to lead us through these unusual times until then and they will be working together to ensure a smooth transition. We look forward to introducing Dr. Niedermeier to you in the coming months.

Sincerely,
Duanesburg Board of Education
