Superintendent’s Update – May, 2023

Dear DCS Community:

On May 16 from 1-9 PM in our high school library, community members will be able to vote on our school budget. This year’s school budget (which you can read about here and in a forthcoming newsletter that will be mailed to homes soon) maintains existing programs such as our College in the High School and Career and Technical Education offerings, while prioritizing school safety.  You can find information on voting or request an absentee ballot here. Please remember to vote!

Best,

Jim Niedermeier, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Budget Hearing Tonight
At tonight’s Board of Education Meeting, which begins at 6:30, community members will have an opportunity to ask questions about the district’s proposed budget. If you are unable to make it, we have condensed the budget down into a short video which you can see below or catch the stream or recording of the meeting on our YouTube Channel

Meet the Candidates Night
There are four candidates running for two open seats on the Board of Education this year. You can read more about the candidates here or attend Meet the Candidates Night hosted by the DCPTA next Thursday night, May 11, at 7:00 PM in the high school auditorium. It will also be streamed on the district’s YouTube Channel.

Northern Rivers In-House Clinic
We have been notified that Northern Rivers will no longer be able to operate their in-house mental health clinic in our schools next year. Those receiving counseling in this program should soon be contacted by Northern Rivers personnel soon to discuss plans for transition.

Bus Driver Job Fair
If you have ever considered driving for the district, there will be an opportunity to get behind the wheel of a bus to test your skills from 8 am-11 am on Saturday, May 20 in the bus loop at the Elementary School. Please consider serving the students of DCS in this essential capacity! Bus drivers start at $20/hr.  Other district employment opportunities can be found here
