DCS’ girls varsity basketball team with head coach Chris Herron topped Berne-Knox-Westerlo this week by a score of 67-49 to win the 2022 WAC championship, marking the first time in a decade that Duanesburg has won the league title. The Lady Eagles also finished the regular season undefeated in league play — an accomplishment that hadn’t happened since 1999.

“Now we shift our focus to sectionals where everyone is 0-0 and work to try and do something really special,” Coach Herron tweeted earlier this week from the team’s Twitter account (@DuanesburgHoops).

The Lady Eagles’ postseason kicks off this weekend. They are currently ranked as the #2 class C team in NY state and earned the #1 seed for the Section 2, Class C tournament. They will face #17 seed Hadley-Luzerne at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19 in a home match at Duanesburg High School (163 School Dr., Delanson, NY 12053). See important spectator information below.

Saturday’s game will be livestreamed on Duanesburg’s district YouTube channel.

With a first-round win Saturday night, the Lady Eagles will advance to the quarterfinal game, which will also take place at Duanesburg High School on Wednesday, February 23.

SPECTATOR INFORMATION FOR 2/19/22 GAME

Admission is free for Saturday’s home sectional game. There will be a 300 spectator limit, with 150 spectator spots available for each team. Priority will be given to players’ family members, whose names will be on a list provided ahead of time. Spectators not on a player’s list will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis, until maximum capacity is reached. Your patience will be appreciated on Saturday, as you may need to wait in line while the on-site staff assesses spectator capacity before allowing additional spectators into the gymnasium.

Face masks must be worn — and worn properly (covering the nose) — by all spectators AT ALL TIMES while inside the school building. There are no exceptions. Face masks will be available at the door for anyone who needs one.
