DCS Elevates Shedina to Assistant Superintendent for Support Services & Curriculum

DCS Superintendent of Schools Kimberly Ross announced today that she will recommend Ms. Kendra Shedina, the current Dean of Students at Duanesburg Jr.-Sr. High School, for appointment as Assistant Superintendent for Support Services & Curriculum at the District’s upcoming Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, November 4. Once approved, the appointment will take effect immediately.

In this role, Ms. Shedina will oversee the district’s Special Education Department and student support services while also leading curriculum, intervention systems, school improvement efforts, and DCS’ ongoing implementation of the Portrait of a Graduate.

“Following the vacancy of our Director of Special Education position, the district took the opportunity to thoughtfully evaluate its leadership structure and how we can best support the evolving needs of our students,” Ross said. “Through that process, we recognized the value of bringing special education, curriculum, instruction, intervention services, and student supports together under one leadership role to strengthen coordination across grade levels and ensure a more cohesive PreK-12 experience for all learners.”

For the past two years, Shedina has served as the Dean of Students at the Jr.-Sr. High School. Prior to that, she was a high school English teacher at DCS for seven years. Before joining Duanesburg, she spent four years teaching at Charlotte Valley Central School in Davenport, NY.

“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue my leadership journey at Duanesburg,” Shedina said. “Having spent almost a decade at DCS, I have seen firsthand the dedication and talent of our incredible staff, and I am continually inspired by the ways our students learn, grow, and thrive. I look forward to building on the strong foundation we have established together and continuing our collective efforts to create meaningful opportunities and positive outcomes for every student.”

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in creative writing from Hartwick College and a Master’s degree in Adolescent Education (English) from The College of Saint Rose. In addition, she earned School Building Leadership and School District Leadership certifications from Saint Rose.

Shedina also serves in a vital leadership role as the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) District Coordinator for DCS. In this position, she helps implement the New York State law designed to prevent harassment, bullying, and discrimination, working to ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students.

“During her time at DCS, Ms. Shedina has built strong relationships with students, families, and staff and has consistently demonstrated a commitment to doing what is best for children. She understands our district, our values, and our commitment to providing exceptional opportunities and support for every student. I am confident that her vision, expertise, and dedication will serve our students and families well in this expanded role,” said Ross.
