Sending a warm Eagle Pride welcome to our two new School Resource Officers! Deputy Jean Gomez is assigned to the elementary school, and Deputy Zachary Leary will be stationed at Duanesburg Jr.-Sr. High School.

Deputy Leary has been a police officer for seven years and has served with the Sheriff’s Office for the past three. Originally from the Kinderhook area, he is a graduate of the Ichabod Crane Central School District. In his spare time, he enjoys attending concerts and spending time with his family. Students are welcome to call him “Deputy Leary,” “Zack,” or “Leary” – “whatever feels most comfortable,” he said.

Deputy Gomez has been with the Sheriff’s Office for nearly three years, beginning his career as a corrections officer at the county jail. He was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to Rotterdam at age ten. A graduate of Schalmont High School, he enjoys snowboarding and sledding with his family during the winter, and swimming, dirt bike riding, and hiking in warmer weather. He’s also a Red Sox fan and enjoys watching Formula 1 racing. Deputy Gomez and his wife, Brooke, have two daughters and a seven-year-old English Bulldog.

“The School Resource Officer program is a vital part of our commitment to keeping students safe while also building trust and positive relationships within our schools,” said Schenectady County Sheriff Dominic Dagostino. “Deputies Leary and Gomez bring experience, professionalism, and a genuine passion for working with young people.”

The DCS community is fortunate to have a strong partnership with the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, and we are grateful to have deputies embedded in each of our school buildings.

We would also like to extend our congratulations and best wishes to our former School Resource Officers, Deputy Smith and Deputy Timmons, on their well-earned promotions and new assignments within the Sheriff’s Office.
