DES Read-A-Thon Benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities

All throughout the month of March Duanesburg Elementary School (DES) students have been raising funds to support the work of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region by reading as many books as possible and seeking donations through the Read for Ronald McDonald House initiative. There are only a few days left to fundraise, and there are plenty of exciting incentives to keep the momentum going!

Last year, Duanesburg Elementary School students raised almost $2,000 for the cause. Erin Goodwin (fourth grade teacher) and Kate Lansing (Speech Language Pathologist) serve as advisors for DES’ Community Service Club, and are coordinating the RMHC initiative through the Service Club.

As of Tuesday, March 24, the fundraiser had reached a grand total of $3,577! Students have been promised that teachers and other staff will participate in an obstacle course, wearing inflatable costumes! Commitments so far include:

  • Mrs. Goodwin & Ms. LaBarge – committed @ $2,000
  • Mrs. Chovan – $2,500
  • Mr. Volans – $2,750
  • Mrs. Knaggs – $3,000
  • Mrs. Lansing – $3,250
  • Mrs. Minute – $3,500
  • If the DES total reaches $3,750, Mrs. Rorie will join in on the obstacle course fun!

Let’s keep reading and fundraising strong to finish out the month of March on a high note!
