DCS grants tenure to eight educators

Superintendent of Schools Kimberly Ross recently recommended eight DCS educators for tenure – a measure that was unanimously approved by the Board of Education. Congratulations to the following dedicated educators in the Duanesburg Central School District:

MADELINE LAMB

Mrs. Madeline Lamb teaches third grade at Duanesburg Elementary School. She says her favorite thing about working at DCS has been the students. “All of the third graders I have had the pleasure to work with here at Duanesburg have always amazed me with their kindness, strong work ethic, and positive attitudes,” she said. Lamb received her Bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education and a Master’s degree in Literacy from the College of Saint Rose. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing golf, and spending time with family, including her husband Jeremy.

SHELBY TERWILLIGER

Ms. Shelby Terwilliger teaches 7th and 8th grade art, as well as ceramics. She also serves as an advisor for the Art Club. When asked what her favorite thing about Duanesburg is, she said, ‘The kids and my co-workers!’ Terwilliger earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from SUNY Oneonta and her Master’s degree in Art Education from Adelphi University. Outside of school, she enjoys painting, animals, and attending concerts.

APRIL HOFFMAN

Mrs. April Hoffman teaches Living Environment and AP Biology at Duanesburg Jr.-Sr. High School. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves as an advisor for the district’s High School Student Council, where she helps guide student leaders in planning events and building school spirit.

Hoffman earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Development and later completed her Master’s in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology.

With a “pretty nice” three-minute commute, she jokes that convenience is a perk—but it’s the students who make her role most rewarding. “The students here at DCS are simply wonderful and make life as a teacher enjoyable,” she says. Outside of school, Hoffman enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her dogs and her husband, Matthew.

JENNA VEGLIA

Mrs. Jenna Veglia is a Reading Intervention Specialist at Duanesburg Elementary School, where she works closely with students in grades 3 through 6 to build foundational reading skills and foster a love for literacy. She also serves as the DES yearbook advisor. Throughout the school year, she captures memorable moments and student milestones, carefully assembling the building’s annual yearbook—a keepsake cherished by students, families, and staff alike.

According to Veglia, it is the passion and dedication of her colleagues that make working at DCS such a rewarding experience.

Veglia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from SUNY Oneonta and her Master’s in Literacy from SUNY Albany. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking/baking, reading, crafting, and spending time with her family, including her husband Ben and their two sons, Calvin (almost four) and Theodore (nine months old).

DANIELLE SURNEAR

Mrs. Danielle Surnear teaches sixth grade math and ELA at Duanesburg Elementary School. She is also a co-advisor for DES’ Community Service Club and a member of the “Funshine Committee.” 

She says working at Duanesburg feels like she is among family. “I absolutely love the small community we have here at DCS, it feels like a family. The students are by far my favorite part of the workday. It’s not only teaching them all of the academics they need to learn, but also being a part of their lives inside and outside of the school day. I enjoy watching them play sports and taking part in their passions, whether that be a play they are performing in or stopping by Art Club to see what their most recent creation is.”  

Surnear earned her Bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education with a Math Concentration from SUNY Plattsburgh and her Master’s in Childhood Education for grades 1-6 from SUNY Albany. Her family consists of her husband Lucas, their two sons Weston (10 years old) and Jack (eight years old) and their lab mix rescue pup Sam who is 17!

ANDREW BARTLETT

Mr. Andrew Bartlett teaches English and Intro to Mass Media at Duanesburg Jr.-Sr. High School. He also served as the co-advisor for the senior Class of 2024, was the district’s modified baseball coach in 2024 and 2025, works to implement ….. MTSS, Appeals Committee.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English through a joint program between SUNY Plattsburgh and the University of East Anglia in the UK. He later completed a Master of Science in Secondary Education at SUNY Albany.

Bartlett says it is the commitment and support of his colleagues that makes his time at Duanesburg most enjoyable. “This is a great community with hardworking people who care a lot about their kids,” he said. 

In his spare time, Bartlett enjoys sports, attending concerts, hiking, and traveling.

TERESA CRASTO

Ms. Teresa Crasto teaches Mathematics at Duanesburg Jr.-Sr. High School, including Math 7A, Math 8, CHS Calculus and RTI Math. She also serves as an advisor for the High School Leo Club and DCS’ Class of 2026.

She says her amazing colleagues in the Math department and other staff at the high school is her favorite thing about working at DCS. 

Crasto earned two degrees as a double major at Union College: a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in English. She went on to complete a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with a concentration in Secondary Mathematics Education for grades 7–12 through Union Graduate College.

In her down time, Crasto enjoys cooking and baking, taking walks and being outside with her family, which includes her husband Peter and their one-year-old son, Thomas.

LINDSAY HECK

Ms. Lindsay Heck teaches music at Duanesburg Jr.-Sr. High School. Her classes include 6th Grade Chorus, Middle School Chorus, High School Chorus, Music in Our Lives, Music Production and Recording, General Music for 7th and 8th grade students, and 6th Grade Music. 

She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from SUNY Potsdam’s famed Crane School of Music, and her Masters degree in Music Education from Florida State University.

She is the advisor of Duanesburg Drama Club and serves as the Director of the school’s musicals and plays. She credits her “amazing students, their hard work and passion” for making Duanesburg such an enjoyable place to work.

Outside of the classroom, Heck enjoys reading, baking, listening to different styles of music, and finding new bands and artists.
