UPK program starts March 1

Duanesburg Central School District is excited to offer a free, universal pre-kindergarten (UPK) program for 4-year-old children from March through June 2019. The program, to be located at Whispering Pines Preschool at 2841 Thousand Acres Road in Delanson, will run from 8:45 a.m. – 2:15 p.m. on school days.

The program is funded by a state grant aimed at increasing the availability of UPK for local families and will prepare children for kindergarten at DCS next fall.

Eight slots are available in the March-June program for 4-year-old district residents, with priority given to children who qualify for free and reduced price meals. The remainder of the openings will be filled on a lottery basis.

There is no cost to families, but they must provide their own transportation to Whispering Pines.

To enroll their children into the program, parents/guardians will need to register their child with Duanesburg Central School District by Feb. 28 to hold a spot.

The district will hold an informational session about the UPK program on Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school’s Joe Bena Auditorium for families who are interested in learning more.

For the 2019-20 school year, 26 UPK slots will be available at Duanesburg Elementary School and Whispering Pines. More information will be available at the Feb. 11 meeting at DCS.

Whispering Pines Preschool will hold a UPK open house on Feb. 13 from 3-5 p.m.
