With it now official that we will not be returning to school on-site this year, we want to provide an update on activities on the school calendar, including end-of-year events and celebrations.
We know that there are many questions about events and there are also many fun and creative ideas out there. When it comes to recognizing students and marking the end of the year, we too want to be as fun and creative as possible.
However, as a school district, we need to take care to have common approaches across our schools due to necessary public health and social distancing measures and to avoid the issues that can be caused by inconsistent plans.
Some of this will take time, but we appreciate your patience and assure you that we are working to make the best decisions we can with our students in mind. If you don’t see an item on the list below or on the school calendar, please assume that it will not be held or is at least on hold. Some previously scheduled events remain on the school calendar because our intent is to hold them in some way. However, due to current circumstances, the details may change. We will use our communications system to keep stakeholders informed.
Please note the following updates by academic level.
Annual Budget Vote & Board of Education Election
Per Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s recent executive order, the annual school budget vote and Board member election will be held June 9 via absentee ballot only. Eligible voters in the district will be mailed an absentee ballot in the days prior to the vote. Completed ballots are due at the district office by 5 p.m. on June 9.
Class of 2020 Graduation
We will be providing a web-presentation of graduation ceremony that includes clips of each member of the Class of 2020 and the usual involvement of class co-presidents, valedictorian , salutatorian, and HS Principal. Read the latest information about graduation.
We are planning to release the Junior/Seniors Awards ceremony on May 20, and will provide details in the coming days.
Junior High School
Middle School Orientation for Sixth Grade Parents
Our middle school has released the transition night and it is available here.
6th Grade Moving Up
The elementary principals are working with each other and will be working with teachers on the best way to celebrate the 6th grade class. We expect this generally to be a common approach across the district, and more information will come from the school as soon as it is available.
Class Lists/Meet Your Teacher
Our elementary principals and teachers have started the process of developing class lists for next year. Although we will not be able to have students meet their teachers in the way they usually do, we will be considering how best to make this connection prior to the start of the new school year.
We typically hold kindergarten screening on-site in the spring. Given that won’t be possible this year, we are considering holding this in some capacity in the fall. We will reach out to our incoming kindergarten families as soon as we have more information.
Kindergarten Orientation for Parents
We will provide a recorded presentation for the parents of all incoming kindergarten parents in the district with a FAQ’s page as well. We will communicate the date and details in the near future.
