May
13, 2009—Residents of the Duanesburg Central School District
can now sign-up to have text messages sent to their cell
phones to alert them about early dismissals, inclement
weather delays and other time-sensitive emergencies.
To add the texting feature, a registered School News
Notifier (SNN) user just has to update his/her profile with
a cell phone number and carrier.
Login to the newly updated School News Notifier (SNN) system
via the link above, or from the homepage of the district Web
site. Enter your e-mail address and password under
“Returning Users” – add the new cell phone information and
click “Update.” You can also update the selected
notifications you would like to receive while in your
profile.
Since the recent SNN upgrade, specifications for passwords
have changed. This means if your password is less than six
characters or doesn’t fit the criteria of the new
requirements, you may be asked to change it.
Upgrades to this opt-in alert system are part of the
district’s ongoing efforts to improve student safety. Those
who subscribe to this free service should receive an
emergency text alert within minutes after the superintendent
makes an emergency closure decision.
Families who do not have cell phones can continue to have
emergency notices as well as district and school news sent
directly to their home and/or work computers.
Please note that the text messages will only be issued for
emergencies. If you want to continue to receive news and
information from the district or a particular school, it is
recommended that you continue to subscribe to the e-mail
notices as well. Users can choose to receive any or all of
the alerts, and they can unsubscribe at any time.
Anyone with questions about SNN are encouraged to contact
the district's communications specialist Audrey Hendricks at
ahendricks@duanesburg.org.
