May 19, 2009– On Tuesday, May 19, Duanesburg Central School District residents approved the district’s $14,864,913 proposed budget for the 2009-10 school year by a margin of 553 yes votes to 254 no votes.

Results were announced shortly after the polls closed at 9 p.m. today.

Spending in next year’s budget is up 0.29 percent over the current year budget and carries an estimated tax rate increase of 1.67 percent for property owners in the Town of Duanesburg. This is the lowest estimated tax rate increase in a decade.

The district will set its final tax rates for the 2009-10 school year in August based on final assessment figures provided by each town’s assessor, and equalization rates as established by the state Office of Real Property Services.

Voters also approved a $301,698 bus proposition to purchase three school buses and two Suburbans as part of the district’s long-term replacement plan. The vote was 507 yes votes to 273 no votes.

In the Board of Education race, incumbent Bridget Holmes and newcomers Christina Loukides and John McKeeby were elected to three open seats on the board. They will each serve three-year terms, effective July 1, 2009.

Vote tallies were as follows:

  • Christina Loukides: 432

  • Bridget Holmes: 555

  • William Wenzel: 272

  • Henry "Gus" Geidel: 301

  • John McKeeby: 382

  • Charles Mueller: 240

Longtime board members Raymond W. Hawes and Dr. James Breitenstein did not seek re-election this year.
