Overview

The middle school is home to approximately 225 students in sixth through eighth grade. Students have the same set of teachers for core subjects, thus allowing more collaboration and team teaching. Students also have the same teachers in eighth-grade as in seventh. A variety of extracurricular activities are available including after-school clubs and modified sports.

SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

• > To help ease the transition to from fifth-grade to the middle school and eighth-grade to the high school, students participate in orientation programs designed to help students learn more about each school building's structure and programs.
• > For two days per week after-school sixth- through eighth-graders may sign-up for a Media Immersion Program with Proctor's Theatre. Students gain hands-on experience acting, shooting footage with digital video cameras and operating other necessary equipment, such as lighting and microphones as well as using the editing software, Final Cut Pro.
• > Students get out of their comfort zones and challenge social boundaries during “Mix it Up at Lunch Day.” The event, sponsored by the middle school's Friends of Rachel's Challenge Club, encourages students to celebrate diversity and tolerance by eating lunch at a table where they don't usually sit.
• > Students have the opportunity to visit a variety of educational sites on field trips to Medieval Times, Cooperstown and New York City.
