Fire Department Visits Elementary School
Fire Prevention Week
On Friday, October 8, the Duanesburg and Quaker Street Fire Departments were at the elementary school in honor of National Fire Prevention Week. Students in grades K-3 learned about and explored fire trucks (the different kinds of trucks and equipment carried on each truck). Firefighters also went to students' classrooms where they talked about fire safety, read a fire safety story, answered questions and showed students what a firefighter's full uniform--including mask and oxygen tank--look like so they won't be afraid of firefighters if there's ever a fire emergency. The fourth and fifth grade students went outside for a presentation where they, too, learned about and explored fire trucks as well as how to use fire extinguishers.
