Duanesburg Elementary School is home to nearly 400 students in Kindergarten through fifth grade. The dynamic teaching staff and support personnel work closely to provide high-quality instruction to all students. Volunteers are encouraged and help make Duanesburg Elementary School a special, supportive place to learn and grow.

SCHOOL HOURS

School is in session from 8:25 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Buses start arriving on the circle in the morning around 7:50 a.m. The buses park in the circle and unload students as a group. The buses typically leave the circle between 8:05 and 8:10 a.m. [ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES]

STUDENT OFF & PICK UP PROCEDURES

The circle is a one-way lane, therefore, any student who is driven to school by a parent cannot be dropped off before 8:05 a.m. Parent who are dropping off their children must wait until all buses have left the school parking lot.

Children who are picked up every day by a parent, and children who provide a bus slip to the main office before 8:30 a.m. for a parent pickup on that day are "voice" dismissed from school at 2:30 p.m. Doing this allows parents to use the circle to pick up their child before buses arrive in the circle at 2:40 p.m. To limit end-of-day class interruptions, it is important that parents/guardians adhere to the dismissal times and procedures.

Does your child need to take a bus some place other than home? Is your child going to a friend's house after school and in need of a bus permission slip? For information about bus transportation follow these links: [CHILDCARE & PARENT] [TRANSPORT FORM] [BUS SLIP INSTRUCTIONS] and [BUS SLIP FORMS].

SCHOOL SAFETY

School safety is a high priority. During the 2009-10 school year, a "buzzer system" was installed at the entrance of the school. All visitors must ring the bell outside the main entrance, after 8:25 a.m. when the doors are locked, in order to enter the building. Any student who is late to school must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to the main office for a late sign in.

Anyone visiting our school must report directly to the main office to sign in and receive a visitor's pass.

SIGNING OUT A SICK CHILD

  • Parents must report to the main office, sign-in, and prepare a bus slip or present the pre-assigned purple pass to the attendance clerk, Mrs. Boyd.

  • Office staff will call the nurse's office to have the child walk or be walked to the main office.

  • All absences need to have a written excuse from a parent/guardian.

SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

  • > The district began offering a full-day kindergarten program in the 2008-09 school year, which provides students with more time to build a strong foundation in basicsreading, writing, math, science, social studies and the arts. It also affords students the opportunity to use technology, build their social and emotional skills during recess, lunch and playtime.
  • > To further prepare the district's youngest students to meet the demands of the future, students in kindergarten through fifth-grade receive weekly Spanish instruction as part of the Foreign Language Early Start Program.
  • > There is a strong emphasis on addressing each students' needs academically, socially and emotionally through Differentiated Instruction and Response to Intervention.
  • > Community service and education go hand in hand. Each year, students, staff and community members work together to help those who are less fortunate. For example, more than $1,000 was raised in one week this year to help Haiti earthquake victims.
