Clubs & Activities

Art Club

Advisor: Zach Borge

This is a fourth and fifth grade club held after school on Wednesdays throughout the year. The club explores various materials and fun projects that just aren't available to use for larger classroom projects. Students get to list and vote on the types of projects they would like to explore. It is a very loose and fun time for students to find a bit more freedom in their art.

Kidz Art

Advisor:  Tina Gamache, PTSO Coordinated

Looking for a creative after school program for your children? How about KidzArt? This drawing-based, confidence-building, creative-arts program is sponsored by the PTSO. Students work in age-appropriate groups based upon enrollment levels to produce a new work of art each class. They use a variety of mediums, including paints, markers, charcoal, oil, chalk pastels and much more. All of the professional-level art materials are provided. Learn more at www.kidzartcrny.com

Banana Splits

Advisors: Classroom teachers

This is a nationally recognized program designed to help students in grades 1-5 deal constructively with changes in their lives that result from parental separation, divorce, remarriage or death.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters

Advisors: Maureen Chico

The primary focus of the program includes developing a positive role modeling and mentor relationship between high school and elementary school students. The group meets weekly for two hours of quality time spent tutoring, playing, talking and even going on field trips. The club's goal is to establish kind, caring, and supportive relationships for children who are in need of some special one on one attention. The program is so popular that children have to be put on a waiting list for a chance to participate. The relationships developed have lasted beyond the school years and the gains these children make both socially and academically are immense.

Community Service Club

Advisor: Erin Goodwin & Theresa McCabe

The community service club holds a variety of fundraisers and collection drivers throughout the year, including collect donation s- warm clothing, winter wear haiti doinations and collections, animal shelters a new piano for the school, cleaning the playground and other school areas.

Musical

Advisors: Mrs. Polly Benjamin & Mrs. Mary Clare Waltz

The elementary 5th grade chorus members perform a musical in mid March every year. This requires 10 weeks of practice three days a week after school. Students audition and are selected based on their singing and acting auditions. Being part of a musical requires team work and dedication but the pride and joy in the production makes it all worth it!

Odyssey of the Mind

Gr. K-5 Advisor: Mrs. Debbie Johnson and Mrs. Jessie Westfall and parent volunteers

Creative problem solving comes from teamwork, cooperation and risk-taking. That’s the principle behind Odyssey of the Mind, an international problem-solving competition that is both fun and challenging. Students team up to work on one of several open-ended problems that the international organization poses each year. For example, one problem may require students to build a structure that meets specific guidelines. Another problem may require a theatrical solution that is written and performed by students. There is a regional competition each spring and, depending on how students score, they may proceed to the state level or beyond.

Peer to Peer  VISIT THE WEB SITE

Facilitators: Mrs. Jessie Westfall, Mrs. Bridget Minute, Ms. Courtney Hallahan, & Ms. Laura Feinberg

Peer to Peer is a social skills program that was started for students who would benefit from social skills instruction in our school district. The population that we currently serve ranges in age from 5-10 years old (grades K-5).

Science Fair (Grades K-8)

Facilitator: Laura Hallberg

The science fair provides a venue for all district students and home-schooled students in grades K-8 to share the results of their exploration. The science fair is a voluntary project, and is not a part of regular class work. The most important aspect of the fair is encouraging students to have hands-on fun with science and allowing them to discover how science works in their lives. Students are encouraged to work on their project throughout the fall after their regular school assignments have been completed. Students may work individually or with a partner to expand on topics they have learned about in class or they may explore an interest of their own.

Soccer Club

Advisor: Zach Borge & John Johnson

This is an outdoors fitness club available in the fall for fourth and fifth-graders. Students are divided into two teams and alternate practices and games occur throughout an eight week period. It is a non-competitive atmosphere where experienced players and new players can work together.

Student Council

Elementary School Advsior: Mrs. Bridget Minute

Student Council membership provides an avenue for students to discuss ways to improve their school and have a voice in school operations. The Student Council sponsors several dances each year. Other activities include various service projects and fundraisers that help support student field trips at all grade levels. This is a great way for students to get leadership experience while having a positive impact on their school.

Yearbook E-MAIL THE YEARBOOK

Mrs. Ana Valladares

Members of the yearbook staff work hard all year to create a lasting memory of the school year. Students are encouraged to contribute by taking pictures, writing captions and gathering information. If you’re responsible, good at managing your time, hard-working and dedicated to producing a yearbook for everyone to enjoy then this is the club for you!
