Does the School Board see/review the questions that are posted on the Eagle's Nest?

Response heading

This is a public website, therefore, anyone can view it.

Why are the meeting minutes from the last two board meetings not available to be viewed ?

Response heading

Board minutes are posted online once the board has approved them. Prior meeting's minutes are typically approved at the next meeting. The most current minutes online are for May 3. The board will approve the minutes from the May 10 and 17 meetings at the June 7 meeting. The May 10 minutes were not approved at the May 17 meeting because that was a brief meeting held at 9:15 p.m. to accept the budget vote and board elections results ONLY.

How come the decision of who becomes the president and vice president of the board is not based upon taxpayer votes?

Response heading

New York State Education Law states the following:  "A school board is composed of its elected members. One member is elected by the board at its annual reorganizational meeting to serve as president. At its discretion, the board may also elect a vice president, who exercises the duties of the president in case of that officer's absence or disability. If the office of president becomes vacant, the vice president acts as president until a new president is elected."

If a new candidate runs for the board and wins a majority of the votes, who determines what position he or she will have on the board?

Response heading

The Board of Education members vote to elect Board President and Vice President at the Reorganization Meeting in July. The positions of Board President and Vice President are not determined by the voters.

The candidates with the most votes will become board members. Two three-year terms will expire at the end of June 2011.

Why are board meeting agendas NOT posted prior to board meetings? How come board minutes are not posted a day or two after a board meeting?

Response heading

Board meeting agendas are posted prior to each board meeting. Go to the board page to access agendas and minutes.

The minutes for each board meeting are approved by board members at the following meeting and are typically posted online the next day. For example, minutes from the Tuesday, March 15 meeting will be approved by board members at the Tuesday, April 5 meeting. Once approved, the March 15 minutes will be posted on the district's website on Wednesday, April 6, barring any unforeseen scheduling conflicts.

Why does it take so long for the board meeting minutes to be posted? Is the district trying to hide information? We find out about hiring and firing weeks after the event has taken place.

Response heading

All board meeting are open to the public and are conducted in a public venue. The agenda for each meeting is posted online the morning of the board meeting. The minutes for each board meeting are approved by board members at the following meeting. For example, the August 3 minutes will be approved and ready for posting online at the August 17 board meeting.

I have been informed that there is a new superintendent. I have also been informed that April break has been moved. If I work and get the same vacation off as my child it would be difficult to pay a babysitter while I work . Why was this changed to begin with?

Response heading

The 2009-10 district calendar was approved by the Board of Education in April 2008. In an effort to help families better plan for school recesses, the calendar is shared with the public immediately after its approval by the board. The district typically follows the calendar set forth by Capital Region BOCES, which scheduled April break about a week earlier in 2010 than in 2009.

The current superintendent has been with the district since October 2007.

Most school district supervisory positions are civil service positions. Can you tell me if the building head custodians, supervisor of buildings & grounds, supervisor of food services, head bus driver, transportation supervisor, building secretaries hold the proper civil service appointments? If so when were the postings for these position held? were the just in house promotions or do the individuals all meet civil service criteria? if not these jobs should be posted and the proper testing done.

Response heading

The district's business administrator holds the ultimate supervisory responsibility for the food service, building & grounds and transportation departments. All individuals hold the proper civil service classifications, and postings are made as positions become available.

When do the current board members individual term's end? Does the superintendent have a contract? If so, when does that end?
