Student spotlight
February 2012: Katherine Eva Zapotocki
Katherine was chosen to be the February Spotlight because her teachers have said that she is such a kind-hearted soul who shows true affection and consideration for her classmates at all times. She works so hard in class and is always smiling.
What grade are you in?
I am in Mrs. McKane's fifth-grade class.
What do you like most about Duanesburg schools?
I like the teachers at DCS.
What is your favorite class and why?
I like social studies, science and math. I like social studies because I like learning about different people, and I like science because I get to conduct experiments. In our math lessons we learn new strategies to figure out the answer to problems--and I like doing that as well.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in (either through school or outside of school)?
I go to Big Brothers/Big Sisters. I was encouraged to get involved in this program, and I ended up really liking it because I get to see other kids from my school there. Earlier in the year I was involved in Theatre Art where we performed in a play.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be a paleontologist and work at identifying bones in a museum.
What is your greatest accomplishment thus far?
My greatest accomplishment is making honor roll and credit list at school.
Who's your hero and why?
My parent, who gives me additional support whenever I need it.
What is your favorite book?
I enjoy reading books about dinosaurs. I also like The Magic Tree House books.
Who are your top three favorite bands/musical artists?
Taylor Swift, ABBA and Blake Shelton.
What is your favorite food?
I like to eat Pop tarts and McDonalds food.
What is your favorite website?
Some of my favorite websites are PBS kids, Bella Sara and The Magic Tree House.
What activity do you enjoy most in your free time?
I really enjoy reading books about dinosaurs.
What makes you laugh?
Jokes! And being with my friends.
