Three
students win Poetry Out Loud Competition
Congratulations to Gretta
Jones, Taylor Morrison and John Schwartz who are the three finalists
from the Poetry Out Loud competition held January 6.
The judges--Mira Ordon, Tom Elliott, and Tom Reiter--chose these finalists to
represent Duanesburg at the regional competition at the New York State Museum in
Albany on 8 February.
Jones recited "Blessing" by James Wright and "Listening" by Jean Valentine;
Morrison recited "It was not Death, for I stood up," by Emily Dickinson and "A
Red, Red Rose," by Robert Burns; and Schwartz recited "A Black Man Talks of
Reaping" by Arna Bontemps and "Four Portraits of Fire" by Lorna Dee Cervantes.
Kudos also go to the other poetry competition participants: Chelsea
Arndell, Sarah Campell, Sarah Senecal, Angelica Cadwell, Eric
Williams and Maddy Kenyon.
