Leo Club assists with annual Equinox Thanksgiving
dinner
November
2010—Duanesburg Leo Club student officers Alyssa Galea and Nora Kanarkiewicz
(pictured left) embraced the true meaning of the holiday season this year by
delivering a food donation to the Equinox Program in Albany for its annual
Equinox Thanksgiving Dinner.
The event serves thousands of individuals in the Capital
Region who are in need, and requires the help of thousands of volunteers.
"The Leo Club has a history of supporting the Equinox dinner program," says Leo
Club Advisor Karen Kanarkiewicz. "In fact last year students were responsible
for sorting and packing all the donated food at the Equinox headquarters. This
year, the Equinox Dinner organizers stressed that there was a real need for
ingredients—carrots and onions—needed to make Thanksgiving dinner dishes."
Using funds raised through past activities, Leo Club members
were able to purchase the food needed and make a donation.
Students give back year round
The Leo club credo is that it’s important to help others on a regular basis—not
just during the holidays. The group sponsors a variety of charitable activities
throughout the year, from hosting blood drives to beautifying school grounds.
