Dec. 22, 2009—From fictional characters and monsters to replicas of staff, an incredible array of snowmen recently dotted the front lawn of Duanesburg High School.

As part of a snowman building competition, students expressed their ingenuity and sense of humor while exercising and working on their team-building skills.

The contest was organized by health teacher Maureen Moffett as a way to promote outdoor activity and exercise during the winter months. Students in Moffett's physical education class, Kevin DiTondo's art class and Cindy Rundblad's family and consumer science class participated.

During a single class period, students scooped and packed snow, gathered accessories and selected one of seven categories for their design.

The snowmen were evaluated by a panel of judges, including secretary to the superintendent Jeanne Beach, high school principal Beth DeLuke, social studies teachers Karen Kanarkowicz and Kathleen Sprenger, English teacher Laura Risely, trooper Chip Johnstone, secretary to the high school principal Lori Kuhl, and chief information officer Lucas Larkin.
