Duanesburg joins the fight against breast cancer
Oct. 26, 2009—Duanesburg Middle/High School
hallways were awash in a sea of pink on Oct. 15, as students donned
pink-colored clothing, ribbons and even hair to show their
dedication to breast cancer awareness month.
During the day, students were able to purchase pink ribbons for $1
or donate $5 to the National Cancer Foundation and receive a free
pink hair extension.
Hank Dunn, a hair stylist, community member and parent, generously
donated her time during lunch periods to place the hair extensions
on students and staff using glue and an iron.
In all, the day's activities helped raised nearly $800 to help fund
cancer research.
"We're thrilled with the outcome of the day, and the student's
commitment to breast cancer awareness," said health teacher Maureen
Moffett, who helped organize the event.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Duanesburg's Teacher Association and other staff members, their
families and friends joined 12,000 other individuals at the annual
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, which was held on Oct.
18, in Albany's Washington Park.
The event, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, raised a total
of $1,050,000 for breast cancer research.
A special thank you to everyone who generously donated their time
and resources to this worthy cause.
