May 10, 2010—If you look around Duanesburg Elementary School, you can easily find something that PTSO President Tina Gamache has given to the school.

"From beautiful decals in the lobby to the warm jackets that bus monitors wear, this school is a better place because of Mrs. Gamache," said Duanesburg Elementary School Principal Erica Ryan during a school-wide assembly. Read the entire speech (PDF).

Gamache volunteers countless hours to planning, preparing and organizing events and fundraisers to improve the educational and social experience for students, such as Screen Free Week, KidzArt and Internet Safety programs.

To that end, Ryan presented Gamache with the first-ever Person of Character Award. Ryan created the award to help demonstrate to students the importance of being a good person.

"When this school needs something, she will make it happen through hard work and determination," said Ryan. "We are all very lucky to have her support, guidance and generosity."

Each year the school community will vote to honor one individual—either a teacher, student, parent or community member with thes prestigious award.

There are many different ways to volunteer your time and talent to Duanesburg schools. Read the elementary school's volunteer guidelines (PDF).
