Students participate in worldwide community service movement

May 3, 2010—As part of Global Youth Service Day, a group of
Duanesburg Central School District students helped beautify school grounds in
late April.
With shovels, rakes and paintbrushes in hand, students spent the day spreading
mulch, planting flowers and painting handicap-accessible lines in the parking
lot.
Kaitlin and Chelsea Arndell were on the day's youth-driven planning committee,
and Kaitlin won the Stephanie Bemeisl Volunteer Award.
"I appreciate the fact that they were here as volunteers to show they care about
the building's appearance," said Aanen Aanensen, building and grounds manager.
"Everything looked great when they finished. Many thanks to everyone involved."
To culminate all of their hard work, students participated in a celebratory
event with 700 other participating students in Schenectady's Central Park on
April 24.
Millions of young people in the United States and in more than 100 countries
participated in the 2010 Global Youth Service Day planning service and
service-learning projects. Global Youth Service Day highlights the positive
contributions young people make in our community throughout the year.
