Graduate to help promote non-traditional careers

April 27, 2010—Congratulations to 2007 Duanesburg High School graduate Brook Rowley, who was selected as a 2009-10 Vanguard Award finalist. As a result, Brook's photo will be featured on a Vanguard poster to be distributed throughout the state.

The award is sponsored by the Nontraditional Employment and Training (NET) Project. It recognizes outstanding students enrolled in career and technical education programs that are not traditional for their gender.

Rowley has been a volunteer firefighter with the Duanesburg Volunteer Fire Company, where she is currently lieutenant. Brook completed her Fire Protection Technology degree this past fall at Schenectady County Community College. She is currently a student in the Community and Human Services bachelor's degree program with a concentration in Fire Investigation at Empire State College. She is also an EMT-basic, interning with the Schenectady County Fire Investigation Team.

"Brook is pursuing her passion and will hopefully inspire other students to do so as well," said her mother, Brenda Rowley.
