Second annual blood drive is a success despite snowy weather

The event, co-sponsored by the Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corp, was held in late February at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Delanson. Despite a snowstorm that cancelled after-school activities, approximately 50 donors braved the weather to potentially help save lives.

"I was really impressed," said Leo Club Advisor Karen Kanarkiewicz. "My hope is that activities like this will help our students to develop a life-long commitment to volunteerism and community service."

Many club members not only donated blood, but stayed to check-in donors and man the canteen. Prior to the drive, students also helped with publicity, recruitment of donors and reminder phone calls.

This is the second blood drive the club sponsored this year, and they hope to sponsor another one in the fall
