DCS athletes break school’s 1984 track record set by mothers and aunts

At the Cherry Valley Kyle Hysack Invitational held in May, under the lights, the Duanesburg Girls’ varsity track 4-by-400 relay team broke the school’s record of 4:13.0 when they took first place in the relay with a time of 4:12.8. [READ FULL STORY]
Fall sports physicals, June 5

Any student who is interested in playing a fall sport next school year must have a complete physical. The school is taking appointments now, please contact Mrs. Newsome. Physicals will be held on Tuesday, June 5 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Varsity softball team has three big wins

Congratulations to the varsity softball players who recently won three games in a weekend. Friday Dani Hennel no hit Sharon Springs giving the Lady Eagles a perfect league record of 12-0. Things only got better Saturday with Rachel Gamache and Stephanie Rice hitting homeruns, and Dani Hennel throwing two complete games allowing the team to capture the Lake George Softball Tournament. They shut out host Lake George 11-0 in the opener and beat state ranked Ticonderoga 9-4 in the nightcap. The teams overall record now stands at 14-2. The team is now in the running for the WAC Cup.

Congratulations to the JV softball team who for knocking off Lake George 14-8 and Ticonderoga 20-10. The two wins improve the team’s record to 9-4.

The 4X400 relay school record, set in 1984, was broken! Congratulations to Maddy Kenyon, Mackenzie McQueeney, Abby Schaible and Ciara Fisher who broke the record with a time of 4:12.8. They also took first place in the the 4X100 relay. Additionally, Maddy Kenyon broke the meet record taking first place in the 400, and Kileen Iveson placed fourth in discus event and sixth in shot. She also set a new personal record in discus. Andrea Barton took sixth place in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the high jump. Maeve McKeeby took third place in the 800 and seventh place in the 400. Abby Schaible won the in the 400 hurdles, and Ciara Fisher won the 1500 with a new personal record shaving seven seconds off her pervious time.vKatie Gregory won the 3000 with new personal record and took fourth place in the 1500, also with a new personal record shaving seven seconds off her previous time. The 4X200 relay team made up of Taylor Morrison, Maeve McKeeby, Andrea Barton and Connelly Holmes came in second place. Mackenzie McQueeney came in third place the 200 meter dash. Lastly, Taylor Morrison won the will-to-win award and Maddy Kenyon won the overall female track athlete award.

JV softball team on a roll

The JV softball team raised their record to 4-0 Saturday with a 13-1 win over Mayfield in the Lady Bulldog Softball Tournament at Doc Reilly Park in Cobleskill. Alexa Lombardoni picked up her first junior varsity win giving up just open hit over four innings. Tori Geiger pitched a scoreless fifth inning in her first appearance. The team played exceptional defense led by Brittany Adams’ two running catches in centerfield. The championship game against Greenville was rained out.
Board approves free pilot football program

At its April 3 meeting, the DCS board voted 4 to 3 to accept the Schoburg Booster Club’s proposal to start a fully funded, two-year shared football program. The program will create a Duanesburg-Schoharie Junior Varsity football team, allowing middle and high school students an opportunity to play football on a school team. The Schoharie Central School District board must also approve the proposal in order for the football program to be implemented in both districts. DCS alumni Nick Gwiazdowski earns All American Honors

Nick Gwiazdowski, a 2011 DCS graduate, who attends Binghamton University and is a member of the wrestling team was recently named a college All American at the NCAAA Division I Wrestling Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri where he placed in the top eight in his weight class. “Becoming a college All American is a great honor and it is very rare for a first-year college student to win this award,” says DCS Wrestling Coach Joe Bena. “This is the first time an alumni of Duanesburg High School has earned this honor—I am so proud of Nick!”

Girls basketball team dominates holiday invitational

The Lady Eagles basketball team participated in a
Holiday Invitational during the school's recess at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake
Central School where they almost performed the impossible by beating two large
schools! In the first game on Friday, the Lady Eagles defeated the Class A host
club, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, by a score of 42-39. High scorers in the game
were Sam Tomeck with 15 points and Stephanie Rice with 9 points. The impossible
almost happened the next day when the Lady Eagles almost beat Class AA Ballston
Spa but came up short by only 5 points. High scorers in the second game were
Stephanie Rice and Rachel Gamache with 12 points each and Maddy Kenyon with 9
points. Stephanie Rice was named to the All Tournament Team. Congratulations to
the Lady Eagles!
The Lady Eagles are now 5-1 and travel to Schoharie to take on the Lady Indians
this Friday and host rival BKW for a first place showdown the following Tuesday.
Come cheer the Lady Eagles to victory.

Congratulations to the Scholar Athletes on the Girls Varsity Soccer team who earned an overall academic average of 93.15 with student Lucia Mackie carrying the highest average of 95.67. Congratulations also goes to the Scholar Athletes on the Girls Varsity Volleyball team who earned an overall academic average of 90.02.

Girls soccer update
October 27, 2011
Girls soccer traveled to Waterford for their first round Sectional game on Wednesday (10/26) night. The Lady Eagles played a strong control game that set the tempo for the contest. With 10 minutes to go in the first half, sophomore Kayla Smalls took advantage of her time on the field and finished off a tenacious play by scoring on a pass from Dani Hennel. The girls continued to play their game during the second half and had many opportunities, but Kayla's was the lone goal and the final score was 1-0. Sam Tomeck and Stephanie Rice both had very strong games for the Lady Eagles. Duanesburg next travels to Maple Hill on Friday at 3 p.m.

season for DCS golf team

The DCS golf team finished in fifth place at the WAC Championships played at Pioneer Hills golf course in Galway. Freshman Pat McGarry had Duanesburg's top score of 92. Team Captain and Junior Sean McGarry qualified for sectionals with 7 scores of 8 over par or better during the season. Sean finished tied for 19th place with a score of 91 at the CD sectionals at Schenectady Muni. Go Eagles!
Girls varsity soccer season ender update

The Lady Eagles finished their season this past weekend with two fantastic games. They celebrated senior night on Friday, Oct. 21 by beating Northville 1-0. Duanesburg controlled the majority of the play and finally broke through on a goal by Dani Hennel assisted by Steph Rice. On Saturday, Oct. 22 the Lady Eagles took on arch-rival Schoharie. Both teams battled for 100 minutes of scoreless soccer with the game ending in a 0-0 tie. Hannah Mcguire and Caitlin Sanders had great games, while Sam Tomeck was phenomenal in the net--not letting in a goal in 180 minutes of soccer.

Cross Country finished strong

Lady Eagles finished strong at the Grout Invy in Central Park. Leading the Eagles was Ciara Fisher who placed 20th with a time of 18:34, followed by Connelly Holmes who placed 32nd with a time of 19:50, Abby Schaible who placed 34th with a time of 20:06, and bringing it home with a strong finish by Emily Barnes who placed 43th! The girls all came home with medals! Congrats to Lady's Coach Gecaj who set high expectations and are reaching them!
