Our Community
Duanesburg is a community with a geographic area of about 60 square miles and many spectacular views of the Mohawk Valley, Schoharie Valley and the Helderbergs.
The community has a friendly, rural atmosphere and a
population of approximately 5,000 with active civic organizations and volunteer
fire companies.
Located on Route 20, some 30 minutes west of Albany, it is within easy reach of
the New York State Thruway and Interstate 88. There are three primary population
centers—Duanesburg, Delanson and Quaker Street.
The area has much to offer. There is a town park with facilities for tennis,
basketball and softball, two lakes suitable for small watercraft, antique shops
and restaurants, a close proximity to Rotterdam, Colonie and Crossgates Malls
and a small airport for skydiving enthusiasts. The district is also close to
major employers such as General Electric and the New York State Offices—both of
which provide employment to many district residents.
Higher educational opportunities are available at nearby colleges, such as the
State University at Albany, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Russell Sage
College, Union College, Siena College, Skidmore College, The College of St.
Rose, Hudson Valley Community College, Schenectady Community College, and SUNY
Cobleskill.
Duanesburg is also within easy reach of such cultural institutions as the
Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the Glimmerglass Opera House, Capital Repertory
Theater in Albany, Proctor's Theater in Schenectady, Empire State Institute for
the Performing Arts, the New York State Museum, the Schenectady Museum, the
Albany Institute of History and Art and the Pepsi Arena in Albany.
